Our Expertise in Defence Sector

  • Defence organisations around the world all face the same challenge: the need to adapt and become resilient to a climate-changed world in order to, at the very least, preserve military capability. Resources are becoming extremely tight and budgets are being squeezed across the board, whilst global interoperability remains a priority in the face of evolving threats which ensures the goalposts are constantly moving. The situation is unpredictable; there is an expectation of and indeed a requirement for agencies to deliver high-quality levels of service in spite of significant financial cuts, and there is no risk appetite to defer to trial and error. The stakes are all too high.

The solution is within reach, however, if we put our trust in data.

Many agencies continue to function in silos, with their data spread across a variety of stand-alone platforms. From details of serving personnel to defence infrastructure status, asset locations, equipment catalogues and training progress, the big picture can be visualised and analysed once we join forces, and silos to produce a unified data view.

In spite of a rising volume of information expanding from various sensors, the military is finding it harder than ever to separate the insights from the details. This is the defence’s information paradox.

Information is inaccessible in inner or contractual silos. Absence of recognition that information was significant. Vital skills gap and lack of accountability for data.

Non-standardized exploitation and information delivery. Temperance and inconsistent governance. Overlapping information holdings across the defence.

  • Regrettably, Defence agencies and their various stakeholders are not regularly exploiting the full potential of their data, but we’re doing our bit to help change that.

We wish to enable UK Defence to better visualise their data, in order to instil understanding in the estate and wider picture, encourage collaboration between departments and lead the way in making interoperability a success.

Within the four broad areas, Butterfly Data offers the appropriate tools and resources.

  • Delivering an asset management program using ArcGIS mapping integration and intuitive visualizations

  • Predictive modeling of past contract spending to better understand future cost curves and derive insights on how best to spend future budgets.

  • Automatic effective tracking of Key Performance Indicators to enable senior stakeholders to understand and react quickly to progress.

  • Search for hidden relationships, acknowledge patterns, and detect trends, offering valuable insights that would otherwise be impossible to observe and resolve
