Insight from an RAF Assessment Day

In November 2021 a fellow Butterfly colleague and I were given an opportunity to attend an RAF assessment day at the world's first air academy in the heart of Lincolnshire (RAF Cranwell). Several of the team at Butterfly Data are Army Reservists (18%), they bring exceptional skills to our workforce and implement them on a daily basis. The RAF Reservist’s Employer Overview extols the following benefits a business can gain:

  • World class transferrable training to develop key skills such as leadership, communication, self-confidence, and teamwork.

  • Accredited skills in health & safety, first aid, IT, and personnel management.

  • Fit and resourceful employees trained to operate under pressure with sound judgement and respect for others.

  • Enhanced employee retention through extraordinary role variety which may not be available in your organisation.

The assessment day gave us a minor snippet of the various assessments air cadets and army reserves have to endure while going through the selection process. Our experience was a more fun and relaxed environment, with the main focus on leadership skills.

I personally was able to take away the importance of listening to all points of view and encouraging other people to share their ideas, both of which can bring fresh perspectives to any situation. Higher level management does not necessarily mean better ideas, individuals from various backgrounds view problems and resolve issues in completely different ways. I feel Butterfly Data embraces an ethical workforce resulting in our problem solving and integrated solutions really standing out from the crowd.
